What does your business do?

iSimulate provides the most innovative health simulation and education tools through our offices in Australia and the USA, and distributorships in other key countries. We have two main simulation system ALSi (Emergency) and CTGi (Obstetric) with a third, AURiS (Stethoscope) being released in August 2016.

We have influenced simulation practices worldwide with our systems, especially ALSi, which has allowed health educators to conduct simulations in any area in minutes, rather than hours. We have removed the need for a technician to run the simulator, reducing cost and complexity in the process.

In 2014-15 we sold in to four main markets: universities (160 units); hospitals (101); EMS (167); and training/private organizations (136). We have sold in to some of the most well known organizations in the world, such as Albany Med, UCLA, Duke University, George Washington University and University College of London Hospitals.

What’s one of your favorite health products?

ALSi is our favorite product in the range. The main reason is that it was the catalyst for the start of the company and it is such a cool product that brings smiles to users who see it for the first time.


Why do you think your customers like this product so much?

As our systems are self-contained, allowing out-of-the-box use in the classroom and running simulations, educational or clinical sessions, without the need for expensive accessories or personnel.

One of the key features of our products is that it is completely safe to use on a standardized patient (a human actor), a mannequin, or in the classroom.

Our systems are more affordable, versatile, and realistic than current systems on the market today. The cost effectiveness, simplicity, and flexibility of the technology have been embraced by the industry with sales in 35 countries and growing.

Can you give us a brief history of your business and the growth it has experienced so far?

Peter Mackie, an Intensive Care Paramedic, and Dr. Anthony Lewis, an Anesthetist, incorporated the company in 2011 to provide tools to improve access to quality, affordable health simulation.

iSimulate continues to improve its health/medical simulation technology that dramatically improves the functionality and performance of medical simulation in emergency and obstetric training. We are now in Version 4 of our bestselling system, ALSi and Version 3 of our obstetric system, CTGi.

In 2015 Financial Year, our export sales doubled to over $2 million. We achieved this growth by focusing on building our brand in a highly competitive marketplace. With an ongoing strategy of tradeshows and visits by our CEO to potential customer organizations, we are growing at an exciting rate. The most successful campaign, with an increase from 60 to 167 units, was the US Emergency Medical System (EMS) market, which was a targeted area in the USA.

Our distributors are working well in the UK and Europe, with excellent growth this year.

The cost effectiveness, simplicity and flexibility of the technology have been embraced by the industry with sales in 31 countries, with Europe, UK and the USA being the fastest growing areas.

How is Unleashed helping your business grow?

Unleashed has been our chosen inventory software since we moved to the cloud, mainly due to the ease with which it allows us to build product, manage exchange rates and the ability to track serial numbers. The features we couldn’t manage without are the ability to handle multiple warehouses and product builds.

We have won consecutive Export Awards for Education in the ACT and have been national finalists in 2014 and 2015.

The industry has been focused on more complexity for many years. We are using disruptive technology to challenge existing training and simulation standards and systems. One of the established cornerstones of high fidelity simulation has been using complex, expensive mannequins. Our technology steers away from this, and can help increase the fidelity of basic mannequins easier and cheaper than ever before.

Confronted with the expensive annual upkeep of existing high fidelity mannequins, many existing simulation centers are now using our technology instead.


Is there something your business in particularly proud of?

We have influenced simulation practices worldwide with our systems. Our products allow health educators to conduct simulations anywhere within minutes, rather than hours. We have reduced cost, complexity, and the technical training required to run medical simulations. The result is an increase in quantity and quality of simulation and training.

Are there any particular not-for-profit causes that you, or your business is passionate about, and why?

We have donated several ALSi systems to developing countries, however, we only consider the donation of an iSimulate system where there is an established education program in place, and the system will be used frequently.

We do not believe in having a system being placed in a storage room and only being used when the overseas team arrives. We have several programs in place where we will only lend the equipment for the duration of the program.

While at the same time decreasing inventory turn time and investments in raw materials due to an improved planning and purchasing processes.
