Our story

Early years

Unleashed was founded in Auckland, New Zealand in 2009 when Greg Murphy – previously a warehouse manager – and Terry Patmore saw the need for more streamlined and affordable ways of managing inventory in small-to-medium firms, where physical goods often make up the biggest capital outlay. 

Rapid growth

The pair’s early efforts at creating and selling a digital solution led them to winning a place at Massey University’s “e-centre” business  incubator, where they concentrated on building Unleashed as a cloud-based Software as a Service platform. With new CEO Gareth Berry onboard and boosted by integrations with other emerging cloud business tools like Xero, Vend (now Lightspeed) and Shopify,  Unleashed entered a period of rapid growth, building out features and opening offices in Australia and the United Kingdom. 

Lockdown and Acquisition

As the world reeled from the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic and remote working, Unleashed came to the attention of the UK’s Access Group. Unleashed was the perfect tool for small manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers needing to run their operations remotely, and the company’s robust performance during this difficult period – and reputation for obsessive customer service – contributed to their successful acquisition by the Access Group in November 2020.

Unleashed has been recognised dozens of times over the years for excellence in technology, customer service, community service and employee wellbeing. Notable awards include no less than eight citations in the Deloitte Asia Pacific Fast 500, three Xero Small Business App of the Year awards plus four Xero Add-on Partner of the Year awards, as well as “Best of the Best Supreme Award Winner” and “Employer of the Year” in the prestigious Westpac Business Awards in 2020.
